![]() | Shipping In Bridgewater Nova Scotia, Canada LaHave River 1899-1925 |
| In the first part of the 1900's, the port in Bridgewater was a busy community, with the port hosting a wide variety of International ships. While cleaning out our attic several years ago, we came upon the handwritten journal of Harry Mosher, who was the pilot in the LaHave for all those years. Below is a true copy of those records, listing all the ships that came to the LaHave River during that first quarter century. The opening page, shown to the right says: May 1, 1899 - "In this book will be found a complete list of the vessels that were piloted in the LaHave River by us after this date. Before this date the correct account of vessels were not kept" ~ Harry Mosher. The small, black hardcovered book (4 1/2" x 7 " ) has been donated by us to the DesBrisay Museum in Bridgewater, for all to enjoy. ~Sandra & Joe Mailman | ![]() |
| Note: When reviewing the ships that arrived in the LaHave River, we first thought when it listed the Captain followed by "from", that it was the home of the Captain, however after reviewing the entire records, the "from" location is where the vessel came from before arriving in the LaHave River. |
